How Much Charcuterie Do You Need Per Person?

One of the most common questions I get is: How much food do I actually need per person? It’s an important question. You don’t want to have way too little food leaving guests wanting more, and you don’t want have an excessive amount that will go to waste. Whether you’re hosting an intimate picnic, cocktail party, bridal shower, or wedding, the goal is always the same: to have enough for everyone to enjoy comfortably! The right amount really depends on the style of your event, the timing, and whether charcuterie is being served as a light bite or the main feature.

Light Grazing

When charcuterie is served during cocktail hour, before a meal, or alongside other food options at an event, lighter portions are usually ideal. We recommend approximately 2–3 oz of cheese per guest and 2 oz of cured meats per guest, paired with accompaniments such as crackers, fresh fruit, nuts, olives, and smaller bites. This style is perfect for cocktail parties, bridal showers, birthdays, corporate events, and wine nights.

When Grazing is the Main Focus

When the grazing spread is the main feature of the event, we recommend 6–8 oz of total cheese and cured meats per person to ensure a generous and satisfying experience. Portions should be more abundant and varied, with guests typically enjoying a wider assortment of foods, leaving them satisfied!

A few factors can also influence how much you’ll need. The length of your event, the time of day, what else is being served, and guest preferences all play a role, especially when a beautifully styled spread encourages guests to graze a little more freely.

When in doubt, it’s always better to plan slightly more than less. A well-filled grazing table not only ensures guests are satisfied, but also creates that abundant, elevated presentation charcuterie is known for.
